It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yola Petrillo of Hamden, who entered into eternal rest unexpectedly at home on December 13, 2025. Yola was born on July 25, 1926 in Vallinfreda, Italy to the late Pietro and Agata (Cortellessa) Trombetta. She was married to the late Vincent Petrillo for 63 years. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Rose Dextradeur. She is survived by her children Anthony (Kim) Petrillo and Bernadette Blaze. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to Matthew Petrillo, Michael Petrillo (Keanu Lopez), Stephen Petrillo and Christopher and Mia Blaze. She was the beloved aunt of Donna (Larry) Mercugliano, Kevin (Robin) Dextradeur and great-aunt of Robert Dextradeur and Thomas Dextradeur. She also leaves behind her dear second family, the Muts, who held a special place in her heart. Yola came to America in 1927 and resided in New Haven where she became a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony's Church. Her strong faith carried her throughout her life and was equaled by her love for her family and the New York Yankees. Yola had a great sense of humor and a quick wit that always made people laugh. She was extremely proud of her Italian heritage. She loved to bake and would often bring a dish of homemade cookies, freselles or her famous peanut butter balls, when visiting friends and family, especially at Christmastime. The family will cherish memories of holiday gatherings, po-ke-no game nights, homemade pizza parties and her Yum-yum cake. They will forever remember gathering around the table as she taught the next generation how to make palm crosses on Palm Sunday. Calling hours will be Thursday December 18th from 9:30 - 11:30 am in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave. Hamden. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:30pm at St. Anthony's Church New Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. ( www.stjude.org )
