Obituary

Susan Mancini (nee Parillo) age 70, passed away peacefully in her home on March 4, 2021. A lifelong resident of New Haven, she is survived by her partner Byron Deloatch; brothers Michael, Gaetano Jr, and William; nieces Beverly Grodt, Toni Roberts and Gina Parillo; nephews Jason, Jonathan, Matthew and Pace Parillo. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Phillip Mancini and parents Gaetano Sr and Mary and a brother, Anthony. Like her mother before her, she was an exceptional cook. Shaped by her Napolitano heritage, she was a master of southern Italian cuisine. She enjoyed having a Persian cat cuddled up on her lap, cherished a warm conversation with family and relished in a win by the New York Yankees or Giants. And, from her mother she also learned one of life's most important lessons; that a life fulfilled is best measured not by the number of things you possess but rather by the quality of love that you have for your family. That at her core, was who she was and what she leaves to us. Despite being burdened by many painful physical ailments, she had the strength to focus on the more pleasant things in her life which gave her great joy and comfort. Those of us who loved her were the blessed beneficiaries of her loyalty, generosity and loving disposition. A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
