Obituary

Stephen M. Oneto, 70, of Hamden passed away in his home on August 30th, 2025. Stephen was born in Clinton, oldest son of the late Vivian (Strona) Oneto and Larry Oneto. He worked as a letter carrier in Wallingford for 30 plus years until his retirement in 2021. He spent his time playing guitar, listening to his record collection, reading, learning history, and sharing these passions with family and friends. He was an avid storyteller in these moments and it was a delight to witness. He was an excellent musician, able to play the guitar, the bass, or the harmonica. He recently started playing in front of people again with his friend Tom Barret. His knowledge of history encompassed modern and ancient subjects, as well as the history of our family. He was a dedicated, loving and generous father. He is survived by the mother of his children, Deborah Baumgartner; his step-son Eli Baumgartner; his two younger brothers, David and Mark Oneto; his children, John, Anthony, and Sophia Oneto; and his cousins, nephew, nieces and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly and will remember him for his kindness, his helpfulness, and his sense of humor. Calling hours will be held from 8:30 am-10:30 am on Saturday, September 6th in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers or donations, go listen to a cherished song, share a beverage with a loved one, just find a way to spend some time with the people you love–it's what Stephen would've done.
