Obituary

Stephen Pasquale DeMatteo, 72, of Naugatuck died last week unexpectedly and perfectly banked the cue ball with backspin and a perfect leave for the last time. He will be remembered fondly by friends and family as a man who lived a full life exactly how he wanted to live it.  Steve, or Speedo, is survived by his son, Pasquale and his wife, Becky; his sister, Mary, her husband, Craig, and their children Nick and Allison; his brother Charlie, his wife Sharon, and daughter, Lisa; and his brother Raymond, his wife Chris, and their children Nick, Jen, and Mike. He will also be remembered as a loving son to Pasquale and Amelia of Hamden.  Steve walked with many different crowds in his life but all of them will remember his kindness, generosity, and passion for detail.  Always a perfectionist, Steve spent hours practicing the perfect tee shot at Hop Brook, Laurel View, Sleeping Giant (among many of his favorite golf courses) and learning the small imperfections of every pool table he played so he would always know exactly where the ball would end up. Steve's backyard was filled with endlessly tinkered custom devices that only made work around the yard easier but also allowed him an outlet for a creative mind. That creativity also often seemed to know no bounds in his art and his conversation. Always the first to help you take down a tree or fix an engine, Steve had an innate understanding of the importance of loyalty and friendship.  Services will be private and at the convenience of his family.
