Ruth A. Petrone, 84, of Hamden, died after a brief illness at Benchmark Senior Living in Nashua, NH, on April 10, 2026. Ruth was born in Wendell, Idaho, daughter of the late Neil & Esther Wing Sweeney and had resided in Hamden most of her life. Ruth received a degree from the University of Washington. She was a Physical Therapist at Yale New Haven Hospital for 5 years and then worked in the Alumni and Development office at Hopkins School in New Haven for 9 years. Ruth was extremely adventurous, loved to travel and was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to watching her women’s UConn basketball team! She loved to travel, volunteer whenever she could and thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors. She also liked doing her daily Sudoku puzzles and loved to read, both attributing to keeping her mind sharp. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Linda Peters (Rob) of Hudson, NH and son, Guy Petrone (Amy) of Rochester, NY, and grandchildren Zachary and Brianna Peters & Jake, Ryan and Nolan Petrone, nieces, Joanne Borsani (Ralph), Marilyn Walters and Marguerite Abate, and several great and great-great grand nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Salvatore Petrone, sister, Ann Woods (Richard), sisters-in-law, Amelia, Matilda, Adelene, Angela, Marguerite Abate (Michael) and Ersilia. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church, Hamden, on Monday, April 20th at 10:30am, followed by interment in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden. At the request of the family, there will be no public calling hours. A special thank you to the dedicated and loving staff at Benchmark Senior Living, Nashua, NH for their services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 3000 Whitney Ave #121, Hamden, CT 06518 (www.kidney.org)
