Rose DelMonico Murphy, 99, of 125 Putnam Ave., Hamden, died June 11, 2011 at the West Haven V.A. Medical Center. She was the widow of Det. Thomas J. Murphy. Rose was born in New Haven, Nov.11, 1911, the daughter of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Vece DelMonico and was a registered nurse, employed at Yale-New Haven Hospital until the outbnreak of WWII, when she joined the US Army, serving for four years in the South Pacific as a nurse, attaining the rank of Captain. Upon discharge, she continued nursing at SNET for 25 years and at Conn. Hard Rubber. She was a member of the New Haven Women's Club and volunteered at St. Raphael's Hospital and at Brithright, where she collected clothes for the needy. She also assisted two doctors in writing a book on child developement and behavior. Rose loved nursing and was always ready to help anyone in need. She was a longtime communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and received the St. Joseph Medal from the Archdiosces of Hartford. She is survived by a loving son, Thomas P. Murphy, of Hamden, a sister, Catherine Giamo of North Haven and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by siblings Anne Rowan, Jeanette Mignone, Joseph and Ernest DelMonico and a niece Alice Mignone. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to go directly to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning, at St. John the Baptist Church, at 10 o'clock. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, with full military honors.
