IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rolland
Ravenberg
March 6, 1936 – March 4, 2023
Rolland Royce Ravenberg, age 87, died March 4th in East Windsor, Connecticut. Rolland R. Ravenberg was born on March 6, 1936 in Brookings, South Dakota to Odin and Pearl Ravenberg. He was the third of five children – siblings: Allen, Barbara, Roger and Larry. He grew up on a farm northeast of Howard, South Dakota, near the Belleview Lutheran Church. Rolland walked to the small country school for grades 1-8, then attended Howard High School and graduated in 1954 in a class of 29 students. His first job upon graduation, commencing the following day, was to pick rocks from a neighbor's field for $5 a day. Knowing he did not want to follow in his father's footsteps and become a farmer, Rolland found work with a construction crew building roads. Traveling as the work progressed, he headed eastward. Rolland enlisted in the United States Airforce, entering active duty January 29, 1957. He served as an Aircraft Electrical Repairman stationed in Plattsburgh, New York, and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1961. Later that year, he married Donna Lee Greene on June 17 in Plattsburgh. Donna Lee and Rolland moved to Connecticut in 1966 when Rolland was employed by Pratt & Whitney. Following a layoff, Rolland found work with PepsiCo before going to work for Dexter, Inc., in Windsor Locks. He also worked part time jobs concurrently for many years, including for Marsh Motorcycle and Airport Taxi. Rolland retired from Dexter in 1998, after almost 30 years of service. In the early days of his retirement, Rolland spent most of his newly found free time helping with the Calvary Baptist Church building project. He also enjoyed baking pies, making jam, woodworking and learning the art of basket weaving. Preceding him in death are his parents Odin (d. 1963) and Pearl (d. 1959); siblings Barbara (d. 1934), Roger (d. 1966), Larry (d. 2009) and Allen (d. 2019); and wife Donna Lee (d. 2021). He is survived by his children and their spouses, Dana Ravenberg (Georgette) of Cheshire, Connecticut, Nonie Ravenberg (Michael Miller) of Decatur, Georgia, and Aaron Ravenberg (Loan) of West Hartford, Connecticut; and five grandsons and one granddaughter, Torin, Erik, Brennen, Connor, Donovan and Jaslynn Ravenberg. Interment with full military honors will take place FRIDAY March 10th at 12pm in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery 317 Bow La., Middletown.
