Richard R. "Poppy" Sylvain, 82, of 1274 Dean St., New Haven, died Sept. 24, 2010 at Branford Hills. He was the widower of Vincenza "Dolly" Manzi Sylvain. Rich was born in St. Agatha, ME. Jan. 24, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Melvina Bouchard Sylvain and was a truck driver for the teamsters for over 40 years, retiring at age 62. He was a member of Local Teamsters Union #443, the Annex Y.M.A., Retired Teamster Club and the East Haven Stoners. He as also a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was the loving father of Mrs. DAvid (Joan) Eichorn Sr. and Mrs. Enrico (Debi) Diamantini, all of New Haven, devoted grandfather of David Eichorn Jr., Alicia Eichorn, Tina Diamantini and the late Kelly-Lyn Eichorn and brother of George Sylvain of CA. He was pre-deceased by 9 brothers and sisters. Funeral Monday at 10:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, l022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at St. Bernadette's Church at 11 o'clock. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Monday morning from 9 to 10:15. A special thanks to the staff at Branford Hills for their loving care and concern.
