Peter Cafano
Jr.
August 28, 1934 – April 6, 2024
Peter Cafano Jr. (Ret. Lt. Hamden Police Dept.) passed away at home April 6th with his family by his side. Born in New Haven, he was the son of the late Peter & Rose Nista Cafano. He entered the Army during the Korean War at age 19 and served as Honor Guard, 3rd Infantry Regiment. Upon discharge he pursued a career with the Hamden Police Dept. as an officer rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He received 21 Commendations and created the first Gambling, Narcotics, and Arson Squad in the town of Hamden. He attended the Univ. of Connecticut and was a graduate of the FBI Academy and also Polygraph School as well as many other schools to enhance his education. He retired after 25 years of service and became director of Security for Rite Aid Pharmacies in charge of 120 stores in three states. He leaves behind his two sons Peter Cafano III and Michael Cafano, his three grandchildren Lindsey (Darren), Christopher & Nicholas Cafano, and his longtime loving companion Annette Lucarelli. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Krampitz) Cafano. Calling hours will be held THURSDAY from 5 - 7 pm in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell ave., Hamden. Friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Friday at 10:30 am for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Centerville Cemetery.
