Pasquale " Pat " G.G. " Barbato, 85, of 184 Worth Ave., Hamden, died May 11, 2010 at the Arden House after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Helyn Callahan Ramelli Barbato. Pat was born in Hamden, Jan. 14, 1925, the son of the late Ernest & Amelia Pastene Barbato, graduated Hamden High School, 1943, New York University, School of Accounts and Science with a BS in 1953. He then served in the US Army during WWII, in the Philippines. He was an accountant for 27 Branch Offices of Soundscriber Co. 1956-59, office manager & acountant, Fox Steel Co. 1959-72, Finance Director, Town of Hamden, 1972-74, Finance Dir., Town of East Haven,1974-79, State of Conn, Deputy Commissioner, Dept of Revenue Services,1979-89. He was a Conn. State Senator for 2 terms, Conn. House of Represenative for 2 terms, treasurer of the Hamden Democratic Town Committee, chairman of : Hamden Board of Tax Review for 4 years, March of Dimes Town & Country, National Italian American Foundation, Anti-drug Task Force and was a member of Knights of Columbus, Carmel Council 3605, American Legion Post #150, Hamden Lions Club, Unitas Club, Hamden Elks Club and was a director of the Amity Club. He received the Veritas Award in 1981 from Providence College and was selected Man of the Year in 1980 by the Hamden Chamber of Commerce. Beside his wife, he is survived by a step son, Raymond (Christina) Ramelli of Hamden, grandchildren, Raymond (Barbara) Ramelli of Wallingford, Roger (Jennifer) Ramelli of Howell, NJ and Al Ramelli of Hamden. "G.G. is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, Alison & Matthew of Wallingford and Jordyn & Jamie of Howell, NJ.and a brother in law, Armando Mirto of Hamden and many niece and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brothers, Dominic & Charles Barbato and sisters, Frances Ambrose, Louise LeVasseur and Rose Mirto. A special thanks to his loyal friends Peter Purcell and Robert Brown and the wonderful staff at the Arden House, especially unit 2-AB. Pat loved to travel, enjoying many trips, especially to Italy, France and England. He and his wife also spent many winters at their home in Florida. Friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Friday at 10 A.M. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment in Centerville Cemetery. Hamden.
