Nicholas DiGioia, 91, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2022 at Connecticut Hospice after a brief illness. He was born in Hamden to the late Michele and Anna Casiello DiGioia and lived his entire life in the house he was born in. He was a communicant at St. Ann's Church until its closing and was a 1950 graduate of Hamden High School. Throughout his nearly 50-year career, he worked as a union carpenter and was instrumental in the construction of many local buildings including Yale's Ingalls Rink. He particularly enjoyed gardening, watching UCONN Women's basketball, and was an avid NY Yankees fan. Mr. DiGioia leaves a devoted wife of 61 years, Ruth Marenholz DiGioia and a sister, Celia Carboni. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. DiGioia was predeceased by a brother, Dominick DiGioia and a sister, Marie Scalese. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial THURSDAY at 11 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament (CBOL) Church, and may call Thursday morning from 8:30 - 10 :30 A.M. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Burial will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
