Michael Colaiacovo, 92, of Hamden, died at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was the widower of Jean Maggi Colaiacovo, married for 56 years. Michael was born in Hamden, October 15, 1933, son of the late John & Anna Maselli Colaiacovo and resided in Hamden all of his life. He graduated from Boardman Trade and then served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1953 to 1956 receiving an honorable discharge. He owned and operated Dixwell Garage in Hamden for 44 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors, working on projects, and helping everyone. He also enjoyed fixing cars, loved cutting down trees, chopping wood and spending time in his garage. One of his favorite things to do was going to monthly pizza night with the guys. He is survived by his children, Debbie DiLeone (John DelBene) of Hamden, Lori (Robert) DellaCamera of Northford, his late son’s longtime girlfriend, Gabrielle Scirocco of Hamden, brother Anthony (Barbara) Colaiacovo of North Haven and grandchildren, Mark DiLeone Jr., Robert DellaCamera Jr., and Anthony DellaCamera. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Colaiacovo Jr., and brother Robert (Theresa) Colaiacovo. He is also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 12 -3 pm in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell ave., Hamden. Friends are asked to go directly to Blessed Sacrament Church Monday at 10:30 am for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
