Mary Eleanor Matteo Pellegrini, 88, of 35 Hamden Hills Dr., Hamden, died May 13, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the wife of Alfred A. Pellegrini. Eleanor was born in Middletown Aug. 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Ralph and Alphonsina DeLeonardo Matteo and was a head cook in the New Haven School System for 20 years. A longtime communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, she was a CCD teacher there. She was past-president of the American Legion Aux., Post 150, past-president of American Legion, District #2, and Past President Club, District #2, and a member of Regionale Marchegian Society, St. Theresa Guild of St. Sebastian Church, Middletown and the Miller Senior Center. Beside her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Marie Ann) Sweeney of Middlebury, sons, Frederick R. (Laura) Pellegrini of Wallingford and James (Sue) Pellegrini of Mt. Marion, NY, grandchildren, Christina Swiszcz, Anthony Pellegrini, Edward and Douglas Sweeney and great-grandchildren, Jake Pellegrini and Alexandra Swiszsz. She was pre-deceased by siblings Anna Grasso, Josephine Grillo Swift, James and Michael Matteo. Eleanor enjoyed cooking for her loving family and gardening and will dearly missed. Funeral Monday at 10:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, l022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11 o'clock. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
