Marie (Mary) DiGioia Scalese, 84,of Hamden, died Nov. 22, 2017 at Smilow Cancer Center after abrief illness. She was the wife of the late Pasquale Scalese, who died in 1978. Marie was born in Hamden, July 31, 1933, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Casiello DiGioia and lived all of her life in the house she was born in. Prior to her retirement in 1998, she worked as a bookkeeper for Temple Surgical Center, where she made many friends. After her retirement, she was a volunteer at St. Raphael's Hospital. Marie was a life-long member of St. Ann's Church in Hamden, until its closure earlier this year and enjoyed attending church functions, including the monthly family dinner. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Scalese of Silver Spring, MD, son in law, Patrick Sheehan, a granddaughter, Nora Sheehen, a sister, Celia Carboni and a brother, Nicholas and his wife Ruth DiGioia, all from Hamden, a sister in law, Pauline DiGioia from Branford, nieces Sharon Pieper and Diane DiGioia and many loving cousins and friends. She was  pre-deceased by a brother Dominick DiGioia and a brother in law, Dominick Carboni. Funeral Saturday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at the Church of The Ascension at 10 o'clock. Friends may call  Friday from 4 to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society LLS.org
