Margherita Maturo, 85, a longtime Hamden resident, died peacefully March 16th at Masonicare with her family by her side. Born in Amorosi, Italy February 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Amedeo & Maria Riccio Maturo. Margherita worked for years as a sewing machine operator at the former Strauss Adler Corporation. She came to the U.S. with her family in 1974 and has been a Hamden resident ever since. She was a long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. She loved gardening, and enjoyed spending time with her nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Amedeo Maturo of Wallingford, Maria (Jeff) Tuchek of South Carolina, Michael (Anna) Maturo Jr. of North Haven, and Antonio (Melaina) Maturo of South Carolina, several grand nieces and nephews, and several great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Michele (Anna) Maturo and Simone Maturo. Calling Hours will be held Friday, March 21st from 8:30 - 9:30 am in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The family would like to send a special thanks out to the staff at Masonicare for their help and compassion.
