Luisa Onofrio Porto, 76, of Hamden, wife of the  late Marco Porto, passed away peacefully, at home, Thursday Dec. 7, 2017. She fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease for nearly eight years. Luisa was born in Faicchio Benevento, Italy, the daughter of the late Michele and Concetta  Palmieri Onofrio and moved to the United States in 1968. As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, her family and friends were the most important things to her. One of her greatest joys came from cooking a big Italian meal and having everyone gather at the table to enjoy each others  company. She enjoyed flowers, and gardening and had a love of animals, often rescuing any homeless animal that she came across. She loved spending time with her constant feline companions, Gigi, Lucky and Lila. She enjoyed life to its fullest and will be remembered for her unending strength, courage and love. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Rosemary Porto and her husband, Nick DiGregorio of Hamden, Tina Rotondo and her husband, Louis E. Rotondo III of Cheshire, cherished grandchildren Michael, Ava and Sofia Rotondo and a sister, Josephine DeMeo of Fontana Vecchia, Italy. Funeral Monday at 10:45 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11:30. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 6 P.M.
