Obituary

Lucian A. DiMeo,92, of Old Saybrook, formerly of Hamden, died April 23rd at CT Hospice. Born March 30, 1930, son of the late James & Mary Aiello DiMeo, he was the brother of Candida Simeone and Louise Carloni (Anthony). Father of Denise Kelly (Brett Kippur), Catherine Craige (Sandy), Lucien DiMeo (Susan), grandfather of Sarah Nesheiwat (Sharif), Caitlin Pinard (John Markus), Daisy Koltov (Michael), Nicole Harilik (Justin), Lucien DiMeo (Sarah), Amanda Matthewson (Craige), David Craige (Sophia), Rose Craige, James DiMeo (Rebecca), William DiMeo, 16 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Belisario Simeone, his son-in-law Dr. Thomas Kelly, his son James DiMeo and great grandson Zaid Nesheiwat. He leaves his beautiful and loving companion of almost 20 years, Diane Adam. Sempre Avanti! Lucian loved life and the challenges that came with it. He found answers before others even knew the question to be asked. Often, he would smile and say "Are we still having fun!" Lucian served in the Army, went to Temple University where he earned a degree in Architectural Studies, with honors. He always wanted to come home and work with his father, which he did. But another challenge presented itself. His sense of community service was strong, taught by his parents to give back to this wonderful country. He was mayor of Hamden from 1973-1979, served in the Connecticut House of Representatives 1971-1973 and again 1984-1988. In 1980 he traveled to Haiti twice as a missionary to work at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital to build an outpatient clinic for Tuberculous. Lucian was an active member of Rotary, named Citizen of the year in 1985 by the Hamden Chamber of Commerce and named Hamden's Finest former Mayor in 2007. Lucian was an avid gardener, winning gardener of the month award in Fort Myers so often, they politely told him he could not be considered again. Lucian was proud of his Italian heritage, and passed on the family stories to each generation. He loved his family with all of his heart, which grew bigger with each addition. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial THURSDAY 11 A.M. in Blessed Sacrament Church, and may call Thursday morning from 8:30-10:15 A.M. in the Peter H.
