Lillian Garcia Peterkin, 54, of Belden Rd., Hamden, died March 20, 2016 at Conn Hospice after a long illness. She was the wife of David V. Peterkin. Lillian was born to Puerto Rican parents in New Haven, She graduated from the American School for the Deaf in 1981 receiving a Bachelor's Degree in ASL/English Interpreting from Northeastern University in 2001. Lillian presented numerous training to deaf community members and interpreters on topics such as medical interpreting, deaf interpreting and consumers rights to interpreting services, all over the United States. She spent over 20 years as coordinator of interpreting services in Mass. and Conn. Beside her husband she is survived by her mother, Olga Yu of New Haven, daughters, Sonia and Kamala Peterkin, both of Hamden and siblings, Norita Weston of East Hartford and Carlos Garcia Jr of MD. The family will receive friends at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Tuesday, March 29th, from 3 to 7 P.M.
