Obituary

Leone Mancinelli, aka Lee Manson, a radio and TV broadcaster from the 40' thru the 80's, of Mix Ave., Hamden, died April 24, 2014 at Conn Hospice after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of 70 years to the late Dorothy Hurwitz Mancinelli. Leone was born in Watertown, MA. June 19, 1918, the son of the late Joseph Mancinelli and Filomena LaRocco Mancinelli. Known as the "Golden Voice of Connecticut" he worked at WELI, WNHC, radio and TV, WAVZ, WCKR in FL and WRCH in Hartford, both on air and in management. He had a knack for nurturing new talent, many whom became successful regionally and nationally. Throughout the years he was very proud of his fund raising abilities to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Following his retirement from broadcasting, he worked for the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute until the age of 92. He is survived by his children, JoAnne Mancinelli (Curtin) of Fairfield, Brian Mancinelli of Westport, and Kenneth wife Patricia Mancinelli of Wolcott and grandchildren, Justin, Alyssa and Lauren Mancinelli. He was pre-deceased by his siblings Tilda Ingram and Robert Mancinelli. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Monday at 11:30 at St. Joan` of Arc Church, 450 West Todd St., Hamden and may call Monday from 9 to 11 AM at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Ct. 06514. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept 12, Memphis, TN 38101-9908
