The dearly beloved Leonard W. Smith, of New Haven, 87 years old, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 1013 after a brief illness. Born in New Haven Nov. 8, 1925 he was the father of Donna J. Sites of North Haven, Patricia King of Hamden and Clifford King of NV, grandfather to Christina Sites of North Haven, Richard Sites of Meriden, Patrick King of Hamden and great grandfather of Kristian and Devin Sites of Meriden. He was pre-deceased by his dearly missed wife, Dorothy M. Smith. The former City Engineer of New Haven and alumni of University of Connecticut School of Enginering, Leonard served the city of New Haven for over thirty years and worked under four of the former mayors. In addition to his work in New Haven, he achieved the prestigious class of 32nd degree member of the Connecticut Freemasons Grand Lodge of Ct. as well as being a member of the Pyramid Shriners for the past 50 years, whose outreach in the state touched thousand of lives. His love of travel and education was a lesson which he proudly passed on to his grandchildren who will continue to live up to his example of what an honest and good person can really achieve in life. He was also a Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. Special thanks to the MICU Unit of YNHH-ST Raphael Campus and especially to Dr.s Michael Imevbore and John Chandler for their extraordinary care during this tragic loss. The love and compassion they showed, we will never forget. Friends are invited to go directly to Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Litchfield Tke., Woodbridge, Thursday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. to celebrate his life. Interment private at All Saints Cemetery.
