Obituary

Kenneth W. Haynam, 87, of Hamden passed away on March 24, 2025. He was born on September 15, 1937 in Canton, Ohio to the late Weldon O. and Vera J. (McDannel) Haynam. Ken's love of learning was evident in so many ways. He earned degrees from College of Wooster, Ohio State University, and University of Maryland and continued to take courses at SCSU and tutor high school students following his retirement as a reference librarian at the New Haven Public Library. He was a lifelong reader of books and newspapers. Ken was a talented tennis player, a super fan of the UCONN women's basketball team, politically active, and an involved and devoted parishioner at First Presbyterian Church in New Haven. And Ken never met a bowl of chocolate ice cream he didn't love. Ken is survived by his four children: Lisa McLean and husband Chris, Cheryl French and husband Stephen, Tim Haynam and wife Michele, Peter Haynam. Four grandchildren: Erin French, Connor French, Liam McLean, Lucas McLean. His sister Barbara Cross and husband Don and brother Larry Haynam and wife Kim. The family wishes to thank the staff at both Benchmark Senior Living and Whitney Center in Hamden for their kindness and care over the years. Services and interment of ashes will be privately held. Those wishing to donate in memory of Ken should do so to Save the Children ( www.savethechildren.org ).
