Obituary

Joseph Andrew Dapkin, a lifelong Hamden resident, died on May 28, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital.  He was only 68 years old.  His family is saddened and shocked by his unexpected death.  Joseph is survived and deeply missed by his wife Heidi of 32 years, his twin brother Andrew Dapkin, his sisters-in-law Linda Rubertone and Carol Cavaliere-Dapkin, and his mother-in-law Eva Rubertone.  His memory lives on with his nieces and nephews:  Amanda Roberts (Nate), Tricia Affinito (Steve), Thomas Zeffiro (Sharon), Lily Zeffiro, Andrew Dapkin, Jr. and great-nephews Franco, Marley and Kenzi Roberts as well as aunts Marie Strona, Christine Warken and uncle Gunther Warken.  He leaves many dear cousins and friends, especially Dan and Toni Paier, cousin Steve Oneto and Evan Oppenheim, who loved and supported him during the past seven years since his life-altering accident. Joe was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Terri Dapkin, his grandparents and many beloved aunts and uncles. He will be forever missed by his beloved cat Fiona, favorite goat "WB" Maverick and the horses, goats and chickens who brightened his life for the last three years. Joe was a talented woodworker and enjoyed his long-time job with New England Woodworks prior to his accident.  He created so many beautiful clocks and pieces of unique furniture which will be cherished.  He could fix almost anything mechanical although snowblowers were challenging for him!  He shared his love for the outdoors with Heidi, taught her how to fish and together they had countless adventures on the ocean, lakes and rivers all over the Northeast. Joe had incredible resilience and his legacy will carry on to remind us to live a life without regrets. Calling hours will be held Tuesday June 3rd from 9 -11 a.m. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal haven of North Haven.
