Joseph P. "Cuddles" Cappella, 87, of 158 Helen St., Hamden, died Oct. 26, 2011 at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illnss. He was the widower of Florence Palmieri Cappella. Joe was born in New Haven, July 9, 1924, the son of the late Angelo and Louise Mongillo Cappella and was employed at Olin and United Nuclear Corps for over 30 years. An Army Veteran of WWII he was a member of the DAV and enjoyed sports, trips to the casino, playing cards and bocce. He is survived by a longtime companion Marie Sicignano of Northford, a brother William (Joan) Cappella and a sister in law Phyllis Cappella both of Hamden and was uncle to Raymond, Andrew, William, Robert, and Paul Cappella and Michelle Gentile also survived by 12 great nieces and nephews.He was pre-deceased by brothers Angelo & George Cappella. Funeral, with military honors, will be Monday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 o'clock.
