John P. (Jack) Riccio of Hamden, CT passed away peacefully with his devoted family by his side on September 22, 2013. Jack was born May 6, 1926 in New Haven. He was the son of John Riccio and Emma Cassesse Riccio. He was devoted to his wife of 65 years, Ann Cassella Riccio. He will be sorely missed by his sons Peter Riccio and his wife Mary Ellen of Southington; and David and his wife Lauren of Cheshire. His greatest joys were his grandchildren John Riccio (and wife Erin), Susan Vassiliou (and husband Nikolaos), Alexa Riccio and Jeffrey Riccio and his great grandsons Cameron and Jack Riccio. He was predeceased by his brother Edward. Jack proudly served his nation in the Pacific Campaign during WWII. He was present at the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and traveled to many of the Pacific Islands as Quartermaster on the USS Pitt. After the war Jack followed his father as a landscaper at Yale University and eventually formed his own company, Highwood Landscape Service. Many of his happiest days where spent each winter in Maui. He never tired of talking about the beauty of Hawaii and his experiences there. He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity to friends and his unselfish love for his family. The family wishes to thank the staff of The Curtis Home in Meriden for their many acts of kindness to him during the past few months, they gave him comfort during difficult days. Jack was a proud Navy veteran. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Home for Our Troops at www.hfotusa.com. Funeral Thursday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, and at St. Joan of Arc Church at 10 o'clock. Interment in All Saint Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M.
