John A. Raccio Jr., 81, of Colony St., Hamden, died Sept. 10th.at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with extended illness. He was the husband of Dolores Baldino Raccio. John was born in New Haven, Aug. 8, 1933, son of the late John A. Raccio Sr. and Francis Russo Raccio and was the salesman and general manager of General Diaper Service before opening Conn. Diaper Service in 1981 which he operated until 1993. He was active in The Hamden Democratic Party and was registrar of voters, litter enforcement agent and Inland wetland enforcement agent for 20 years. An Army veteran of the Korean War,he was active in Hamden Fathers Baseball Ass'n, where he coached for many years. He was an avid NY Yankee and NY Giant fan as well as UCONN Women's and Men's Basketball. He enjoyed sharing his nightly dinner with his German Shepard, Thunder. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, John A. Raccio III, Mark A. Raccio Sr.(Gina Griffis)and Paul B.Raccio(Victoria Monocchi), all of Hamden, a grandson, Mark A. Raccio Jr. of Hamden, a brother, Pasquale Raccio of Hamden and three sisters. Funeral Saturday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son F.H., 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 o'clock. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 P.M.
