John P. DeGennaro Sr., 89 formerly of Cheshire died peacefully Sept. 2nd in Spring Hill FL. Born in New Haven son of the late Ralph & Dolores "Dora" Nista DeGennaro he retired as Director of Materials Mgt from the Marlin Firearms Co. He was the beloved husband of 50 years to the late Marlene Sandella DeGennaro. The love of his life Part I. John served his country faithfully in the Connecticut Army National Guard. A graduate from the University of New Haven, was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Mt. Carmel Council, Life member of the Hamden Fish & Game Protective Association, and diehard New York Yankee and Giant football fan. He also loved playing softball for many years in the industrial and Hamden town leagues until golf became his passion. An avid golfer, fisherman, and hunter, he also coached youth baseball in the Cheshire Town league and loved teaching the young players the game. He loved all of his Grandchildren and was so very proud of their accomplishments and hobbies. In John’s early days at Timber Pines golf community, he won in his flight two club championships, one stroke play and one match play of which he was very proud of. John is survived by daughter Deborah Cooke of Southbury Ct, Son & Daughter-in-law John P.& Robin De Gennaro Jr of Cheshire Ct, Grandchildren Nicole Lafferty (Scott), Christina Rocca, Michael Rocca IV, John P. DeGennaro III (Tierney) Matthew DeGennaro (Alissa), Alysha DeGennaro (Adam) and great grandchildren Hailey, Anthony, Taylor, Emily and Audrey, Brother and sister-in-law Daniel & Judith De Gennaro of Wallingford Ct. and several nieces and nephews, Life companion Elizabeth McCarthy the love of his life Part II of Spring Hill FL. John was predeceased by his daughter Lisa Maleski of Tampa Fl. At the request of the family, services and interment will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sturgill Hospice House, 12242 Cortez Blvd Brooksville, FL 34613.
