Joanne DeMatteis Benevento, 75, a resident of Cheshire the last 48 years, died Sept. 28, 2014 at St. Raphael Campus. She was the wife of Frank S. Benevento. Joanne was born in New Haven, July 31, 1939 the daughter of the late Albert and Margaret Scarpo DeMatteis and was the school nurse at North Haven High School for 27 years. She enjoyed her family and friends, traveling with her husband, and summers with extended family at Silver Sands, East Haven. The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses that took care of her for their love and compassion. Beside her husband she is survived by daughters, Dorinda (Glen) Barletta of Bethany, Janice Palmieri of Cheshire and Karen (Steven) Howe of Southington, grandchildren, Frank Barletta, Benjamin & Olivia Palmieri and Jessica & Amanda Howe, sisters, Jacqueline Stewart of Ringwood NJ and Debbie Buonocore of New Haven and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to go directly to St. Thomas Becket Church, Cheshire, Wednesday morning, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30, followed by entombment in All Saints Mausoleum.
