Obituary

Jennifer Madelyn Consuelo George, age 36, from Hamden and Westport Connecticut , passed away in her sleep early Saturday morning, August 4th, 2012 at her home in Hamden , CT. Jennifer was the beloved daughter of Madelyn Consuelo ( Armijo ) George and the late Robert Vincent George. She is survived by her mother Madelyn, brothers Robert and Geoffrey, sister-in-law Laura George, nephew Samuel George and niece Maya George, half brother Brian George, as well as by her uncles Peter Armijo, Mark Armijo, Joseph Armijo, Christopher Armijo, James Armijo, Charles George, James George, soul-mates Jill Powers, Jenne Hayden and Melissa Herrle, many cousins, hundreds of dear friends and her super dog Rocky. Jennie was an incredibly gifted musician and songwriter who dedicated her life to music and philanthropy. Born in Mexico City , Mexico on January 6th, 1976, Jennifer moved to Westport , Connecticut with her family in 1978. From an early age, Jennie immersed herself in music and was a member of various choral and musical theater groups at Long Lots Elementary, Coleytown Middle School and Staples High School , including the award-winning Staples Players and the internationally renowned Staples Orphenians. Her high school era bands How to Grab Bugs, Decade and Divine Illusion garnered praise from audiences and music critics alike, and Divine Illusion would go on to win the Battle of the Bands at the Levitt Pavilion in 1994. After Staples HS, Jennifer attended Berklee College of Music in Boston , where she studied voice and composition. Determined to use her music as a force for good, Jennie toured the regional folk circuit for several years, performing at countless charity concerts and fundraisers. Jennifer continued to compose and perform through out her life, including recording projects with music producer Jay Wasco and appearances on stage with the Indigo Girls. Most recently, she graced the local folk circuit with her solo act and her on going duets with Jenne Hayden. Private services are being held by the family. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home in Hamden . A memorial fund has been set up in Jennifer's honor; the family has requested that in lieu of flowers or other gifts that people consider donating to the fund at the following site: jennifergeorgememorial.chipin.com/. Jennifer supported numerous charities throughout her life, including Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, The United States Olympic Committee, The Dry Dock of Wallingford, CT and The Columbus House in New Haven , CT. Most recently Jennifer was a tireless champion for the East Coast Italian Greyhound Rescue League, where she and Jill Powers had helped to rescue and re-home a number of Italian Greyhounds, including their own dogs Rocky, Fredo, Miles and the late Wyatt. In kind donations to any of these organizations in Jennifer's memory would also be greatly appreciated.
