Smalling, James W. James W. Smalling, 68, of 205 Westside Dr., Hamden, died April 12, 2011 at his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Joyce Petzold Smalling. Jim was born in Port Jefferson, L.I. N.Y., June 21, 1942, the son of the late Robert and Anna Power Smalling and was employed at Pratt & Whitney for 35 years prior to retirement. He was an active member of the Church on the Rock. Beside his wife, he is survived by sons, Ephraim Smalling and Jonathan Smalling, both of Hamden, sisters Nancy Smalling of Port Jefferson, L.I. and Mary Restino of NC., and brothers, Robert Smalling of Maimi, FL. George Smalling of Port Jefferson and Jack Smalling of St. Augustine, FL. Friends are invited to go directly to the Connecticut Veteran Cemetery, Middletown, Ct., Friday at 10:30 A.M. for funeral services with full military honors and may call at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, l022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Ct. on Thursday from 5 to 8 P.M. There will be a service at the funeral home, Thursday evening at 7 P.M.
