Herminia (Mimi) Olarte Tero Menoza, 88 years old of Hamden, CT passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 28th, 1935, in Anahawan, Southern Leyte, Philippines to Blas Tero and Celestina Olarte. She attended high school at St. Theresa's College in Cebu City and completed her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Centro Escolar University in Metro-Manila, Philippines. Mimi was the first in her family to emigrate to the United States arriving in 1960. She graduated as a medical technologist from Norwalk Technical College. She went on to work at YNHH hematology laboratory for forty-seven years. Mimi met her husband, Sosthenes (Pete) Gervacio Menoza in 1964 through Dr. Enrico and Leonora Khu. After a brief courtship, they married in 1965 and started raising their family of four, Brenda, Barbara, Bernadette, and Benjamin, in their home on West Woods Road in Hamden. She had an open door policy and welcomed anyone that needed a place to stay. There were many friends and family that resided in their home before settling in Connecticut. Mimi loved to travel, go to the casinos, and host weekend parties. Mimi taught her children the value of hardwork, family time and unconditional love. Mimi is the loving mother to Brenda (Emerson), Barbara, Bernadette (Philip) and Benjamin (Tracy). She is a devoted Grandma to Dylan, Emily, Jacob, Jessica, Jack, Joshua and Peter. Dearest sister to Maruja(predeceased), Juanito(predeceased), Alfredo(predeceased), Blas Jr. (predeceased), Clarita, Jose, Vincent(predeceased), Rogelio(predeceased) and Jane(predeceased). The family would like to recognize and thank Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice Care for the compassionate care provided to Mimi in her final months, most especially, Michelle T, RN & Rebecca H, HHA and a special thank you to Mimi's respite caregivers for over fifteen years Crystal and Milan, your loving care did not go unnoticed. To our Mom's lifelong friends who visited her and kept her in their daily prayers and intentions, and finally to our dear sister Barbara for her loving care and devotion to our Mother for these past twenty two years, we are eternally grateful. Calling hours will be held TUESDAY May 28th from 4 - 7 pm in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Friends are asked to go directly to Our lady of Mt. Carmel Church Wednesday at 10 am for a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery.
