Helen "Penny" Leisenring Vaughn, 77, of Orange, CT lost her battle with cancer on Oct. 3, 2013. Penny's love of art, travel, music and nature inspired those around her. Always up for a bike ride, tennis game, walk in the woods or singing with others, Penny's family and friends will miss her warm smile and endearing companionship deeply. An award winning artist, Penny studied art history, painting and drawing at Mt. Holyoke College, the Columbus School of Fine Arts, the Silvermine Guild and Southern Connecticut State University. In turn she taught watercolor privately and at the Hamden High School Adult Education Program. Long-time resident and active community member of Orange, CT, Penny was involved in the formation of the Orange Arts and Crafts Guild and "Art Goes to School" program. She was a member of the Badminton Club of New Haven. Penny loved children and was once described as the kindest nursery school assistant by a teacher at the Orange Congregational Church. Born July 1936 in Danville, PA to the late Albert Conrad II and Helen Pardee Leisenring of Berwick, PA. She leaves her loving husband of 40 years, Edgar L. Vaughn, siblings Alice Lee Shull, Betsy Leisenring Doan and Albert Conrad Leisenring III, daughter Elizabeth "Betsy" Pardee Carlson, son David Gunnar Carlson, grand children W. Gustave Wennstrom, R. Anders Wennstrom, Margaret Carlson, Andrew Carlson, Robert Carlson and many nieces, nephews, cousins, step-children and grandchildren. The family is eternally grateful for all the love and support provided by friends and neighbors over these last months. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Penny Vaughn Memorial Fund, in c/o Peoples United Bank. Memorial Services will be held on Oct 19th at 10am in the Orange Congregational Church
