Obituary

Geraldine Grover Liscio ( Root,Crampton),87, of 135 Derby Ave., New Haven, died peacefully, surrounded by many of her family members at the Hospital of St. Raphael on Wednesday,Oct. 5, 2011. She was the widow of Paul R. Liscio, Sr. She was born in Buffalo, NY,May 20, 1924, the daughter of the late Herbert & Helena Sullivan Grover. She was the mother of Dorine Roy, Hollywood,FL., Joanne Droller, of Naugatuck., Jenny Crampton,of West Haven, Paul Liscio, Jr.of Flemington, NJ, Philip (Janet) Liscio,of West Haven, MaryAnne(James) VanLier,of Lake Hopatcong, NJ.,Geraldine (Wendell) Liscio-Smith,of Wallingford, Heather(Harry) Liscio- Gilbert and Josephine(Stephen) Cahill, both of Hamden, Rocco(Jane) Liscio,of Ansonia, and the late John Crampton, sister of the late Doris Cusack, Herbert and John Grover infant sister grace Grover. Also survived by 41 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 gr. great- grandchildren. And 2 Step children:Lorraine Fonteyn of East Haven and Robert Liscio(Judy of Northford. Pre-deceased by grandchildren, Daniel Dorman and James Tyler VanLier.Let the record show that Geraldine was called Gerry-ma,Grandma Gerry and Grover by countless people that loved her, but was mostly referred to as Nana. In 1971 she was presented with an award by Country western legend Ferlin Husky for Mother of the Year with the most children. Geraldine worked various jobs in her life which included a riveter at Pratt&Whitney, an operator at Auric answering service and volunteered as a foster Grandparent where she worked with the children at Gateway Community College Early Learning Center up until two years ago. But first and foremost she was a devoted wife, mother, and housewife. Geraldine was always a woman of faith and reconfirmed her love for the Lord in 1981 when she became a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in New Haven. She served as a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and volunteered many hours for special ministries events. Her passion for music, especially Christian hymns and songs from her Irish heritage was well known by those who loved her and spent hours of singing around the piano. She loved playing pinochle and other card games. She bowled in many leagues for over 40 years until she was 85 years old and most recently at Amity Lanes. We will never forget her love for cooking and baking. She received many praises over the years for her awsome chili recipe, pineapple coconut cake and lemon meringue pies. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 o'clock at The Evangelical Covenant Church, 590 Orange St., New Haven. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M.
