Georgette George, longtime resident of Stratford and more recently of Bishop Wicke in Shelton, passed away on November 20 , 2015 at the age of 88. Known to family and friends as Gee Gee, she was an accomplished small-businesswoman, a chef, a beloved sister, aunt, and mother, and a nurturing mentor to many. The older daughter of Samuel and Marianne George,Sister of George and Lilly, she was born in Danbury, CT on June 22, 1927.
She graduated from Danbury High School and almost immediately opened her first diner in Bethel, CT. Employed for many years with the Grand Union grocery chain, she eventually took over the family business when her father retired. Many people will remember Gee from the Dunkin Donuts on Barnum Avenue, George's Magic Kitchen in Stratford, and Ray and Mike's in Bridgeport.
After retirement, Gee turned her attention to a vigorous exercise program, her lovely flower beds and vegetable gardens, fig trees, and food. Her home on Wakelee Avenue in Stratford was filled with delicious treats, flowers, and opportunities for family and friends to eat and laugh as she shared her Syrian culture and heritage. She was adored by all the people in her life both young and old, including her nieces and nephews and their families, cousins, childhood friends, and former colleagues. Her daughter Sheri and her life partner Modesto Grandieri were a joyous presence in her heart and life.
Our beloved Gee Gee is survived by her daughter Sheri Buitenhuys, her nieces Debbie George, Alison Beall, Emily Pac, Joanna Beall, and Amanda Beall; her nephews Raymond George and Michael George as well as eleven grand-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Carolyn George of Pompano Beach, Florida, and her beloved sister and friend Lilly Beall of Stratford. A service will be held Sat. Dec. 5
