George H. Raccio, 88, of 61 Bear Path Rd., Hamden, died Sept. 19, 2011, at his home. He was the former husband of Frances Savinelli Raccio and the widower of Ann Kuljian Raccio. George was born in Hamden, Sept. 9, 1923, the son of the late Dominic and Anna Mangini Raccio and resided in Hamden all his life. He was the owner of Federal Contracting Co. which he operated until retirement. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and was awarded the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Medals, the Bronze Service Star, The American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was the Past Commander of American Legion, Post 88, and a member of the Hamden Elks Club. He is survived by children, Mrs. John (Sharon) Cawley of Hamden, Mrs. Gary (Denise) Lengel of FL, Mrs. Antonio (Frances) Ciarleglio of Middlefield, George (Paula) Raccio Jr. and Ronald Raccio, both of Hamden and Gerald (Christine) Raccio of Cheshire, brother of Anna Godwin of NJ., Russell Riccio and Howard Raccio, both of Hamden, Robert Raccio and Arthur Randall, both of Orange and the late Dominic Richo, Ralph Riccio Albert Raccio, Florence Monaco, Helen Torello and Marguerite DeRosa, grandfather to Chrisopher & Jonathon Cawley, Kaitlin Deverill, Nina Ciarleglio, Luca and Matteo Raccio. He was pre-deceased by a daughter in law, Carol Sutherland Raccio. Funeral with military honors, Friday, at 10:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11 0'clock. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M.
