George R. Mastroianni, Sr. 84, of Hamden, died Feb. 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carmel DeFonzo Mastroianni. George was born in New Haven, Dec. 24, 1932, son of the late John and Anna DeMatteo Mastroianni of North Haven. He has resided in Hamden since 1958. He was a sale and operations manager in the transportation industry until his retirement. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he was a proud member of the Presidential Honor Guard. He was a graduate of Quinnipiac College with a B.S. in Business Administation.He was a member of the K of C, Carmel Council 3605, where he enjoyed playing golf in their league. He loved his family vacations to the Outer Banks, and was most happiest when surrounded by his family. In addition to his devoted wife he is survived by his five sons, Joseph (Deborah) Mastroianni of Hamden, George (Mary Crane) Mastroianni of Cheshire, Gary (Kimberly) Mastroianni of Wlfg., Jeffrey (Shelley) Mastroianni of Clinton and Joel (Susan) Mastroianni of Hamden, and eleven grandchildren, Jordyn, Gregory, Jeremy, Joci, Kirsti, Jacob, Neena, Sonia, Max, Jack and Lily, brother of Ann (Anthony) D'Amico of Punta Gorda, FL, Donato (Linda) Mastroianni of Wlfg., and his former daughter in law Laureen Watson Mastroianni of Cheshire. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Barbara Corcoran and brother, John Mastroianni Jr. Funeral with military honors, Monday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10 A.M. Interment in St.. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 7 P.M.
