IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George E.
Funaro
October 1, 1946 – November 1, 2019
On November 1, 2019, heaven gained another angel when George Funaro lost his battle with brain cancer. George had a wonderful life and was an incredibly kind and generous person and made a lasting impact on the lives of everyone he met. George was born on October 1, 1946 in New Haven, CT. He is survived by his wife Valerie, son George Jr., sister Sandra Reid, and several loving nieces and nephews. George was a graduate of Wilber Cross High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps from 1965- 1971 and served as a Lance Corporal. In 1985, George met his soul mate Valerie and they were married a year later, to the day. This year, they celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary. He was incredibly devoted to Valerie as well as proud of his son. George was very passionate about his Harley Davidson motorcycle, enjoyed a good cigar as well as a shot of tequila. He devoted 31 years to working for the Railroad and was known for his catch phrase of, "forgettabout it!" as well as his ability to create a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He was a man who believed in humor and love above all else, he made the best out of every situation presented to him. George was truly not afraid of doing anything in order to help his family and those around him. He will be remembered for always going out of his way for others and making his love for them known. As a man who would drop anything he was doing in order to help others, those who had the chance to know him, were truly blessed. Calling hours will be held at The Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home , 1022 Dixwell ave., Hamden, CT on Tuesday, November 5 from 9-11 AM followed by a parlor service at 11:00 A.M.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Connecticut Hospice at this website: www.hospice.com/ways-to-support/
God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw that the road was getting rough.
And the hills are hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine".
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
That day that God called you home
