IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gail M.
Delaney
August 6, 1961 – April 14, 2021
Gail M. Delaney, 59 of Southington, peacefully passed away on April 14, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven to Edward and Stenna Delaney on August 6, 1961. Gail received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Human Performance, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics. After playing various competitive sports throughout her life, she went on to coach basketball and tennis at the collegiate level at Earlham College in Indiana. Gail later pursued nursing as her second career. Upon graduating in 2002, she dedicated her life to providing compassionate patient centered care. She was a mentor, leader and inspired all those around her to always achieve their personal and professional goals, and to be their true selves. Her nursing career started as a Certified Nursing Assistant where she continued to grow her profession, ultimately leading her to become the Director of Surgical Services within various hospital organizations. Gail was a member of the Organization of Nursing Leadership, Association of Peri-Operative Registered Nurses, Society of Gastroenterology Nurses, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Some of her most deserving accomplishments are Nurse Leader of The Year awarded at the Rhode Island Nurses Association 2010 Nightingale Gala, and recently received the Foundation of Teamwork award from Middlesex Health. Her greatest passions were being a mother, enjoying the outdoors and traveling, especially to the Final Four to cheer on the UCONN Huskies. She always said, "Weekends are always up for grabs" and frequently spent quality time with family and friends as well as playing cribbage and cornhole. She was an "A" golfer having won countless tournaments, however beating her friendly rivals was her greatest joy. She was very generous, having donated to many organizations near and dear to her heart such as the Alzheimer's Association, Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Heart Association and Parkinson's Foundation. Gail was taken to soon from her wife and soulmate, Doreen DeMatties, her children Allison (John) Siligato of Rhode Island, Margaret Kimball of Southington, Peter Christiano of Massachusetts, and her grand-dog Bailey and grand-cat Charlie. Her siblings Edward (Maria) Delaney of Florida, Margaret Pelley of Hamden, Linda Robbins of Burlington and Michael (Stephanie) Delaney of Burlington. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Daniel Robbins, Justin (Ashley) Robbins, Christen Robbins, Morgan (Robert) Nevola, Catherine Pelley, Emily, Michael and Sean Delaney, Michelle (Spencer) Baker and Samantha Cole, as well as her great nieces and nephews: Rebecca, Rhea, Abigail, Jase, Olivia and Colby. She is also survived by loving in-laws Lynne Cole, Elaine (Lawrence) DaCunto and Patricia DeMatties. Gail is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Stenna Delaney and her uncle, Donald Delaney. Her family extends their deepest gratitude to Middlesex Hospital leadership team and staff. You are invited to celebrate Gail's legacy, as we join together on Saturday April 24, 2021 at Peter H.
