Elsie (Ersilia) Battipaglia, wife of the late Louis Joseph Battipaglia, passed quietly on February 23, 2021 at the St. Raphael's campus of Yale New Haven Hospital, after a brief, non-covid related illness. She was the daughter of the late Enrico and Maria Carmina Proscino, and one of six siblings. Elsie was born and raised in the town of Hamden, where she lived her entire life of 97 years. Elsie worked for Whitney Blake Co., Hamden, Sargent Co., New Haven, and Etkind and Solkoff, Inc., Hamden. She was known fondly as "Mrs. B." the lunch aid at Bear Path and Helen Street Schools, as a leader to Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts,  and as chaperone on many school field trips. She volunteered at the Clelian Adult Day Care Center, attended Blessed Sacrament and St. Anne's Churches, Hamden, and was a member of the St. Anne's Young at Heart Club. Elsie loved to travel, having visited Italy, the Grand Canyon, and Florida. She made beautiful afghans for family and friends and her eggplant parmigiana was her most requested dish. She loved dancing with her husband, playing cards, and the New York Yankees. Elsie leaves four children, Louis (Pamela) Battipaglia of Durham, Annette Balcastro of Cheshire, James Battipaglia of Southington, and Joanne Battipaglia of Hamden, as well as three grandsons, Daniel, James and Raymond, her beloved cousin Concetta "Tina" Onofrio and family, and many nieces and nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her sister, Antoinette "Toni" Arnone, and brothers Michael, Mario, Ralph, and Albert Proscino.A graveside service will be private.
