Dorothy Hirsch Ziomek, 95, of Hamden, died July 17th peacefully at her home. She was the wife of the late Lt. Col. Jerome J. Ziomek. Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL, Dec. 4, 1921, daughter of the late Jacob and Anna Wilhelmina Kaden Hirsch. She graduated Lakeview High School, Chicago, where she was a music major playing piano, violin and cornet and did conducting, later performing as second violin in the Hamden Symphony Orchestra. She worked throughout her 57 years of marriage, while raising 5 children, starting at SS Kresge and a tomato cannery, while her husband was in Air Force Officer training in CA. She held administrative positions locally at Eli Moore's & Howlands Dept. Stores as well as Stone Academy, Travelers Insurance and Starter Sportswear, where she retired from. She also was an inspector in an ordinance plant during the Korean Conflict. She traveled with her husband around the world and China. She enjoyed golfing, ceramics, sewing, knitting and crocheting and jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was honored by the National General Federation of Women's Clubs for 50 years of Service to the Hamden Women's Club. She is survived by her children, Judith Johnston, Claudia Ziomek, Gregory Ziomek and Cary Ziomek, grandchildren, Jenelle & Erin Ziomek, Elizabeth Johnston of New Haven and William Johnston of Guilford. She was pre-deceased by a son, James A. Ziomek and siblings, Raymond Hirsch, Cecelia Glazer and Adele Peter and a son in law William E. Johnston Jr.. Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday at 11 AM, in Christ, Bread of Life Church, (Blessed Sacrament) Her ashes will be inurned with her husband's in Arlington National Cemetery, VA
