Doris L. Birks Borrelli, 87, of 207 Borrelli Rd., East Haven, died Aug. 21, 2013 at the Arden House after a long illness. She was the wife of Edward B. Borrelli, Sgt. EHPD (ret). Doris was born in Meriden, Oct. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Frank and Evelyn Schumacher Birks. She started in the work force at the Hill Top Bakery, where she baked, and shipped cookies to the troop overseas in WWII. She was a telephone operator for the railroad and SNET, was employed at American Powdered Metals and Eklin prior to retiring 20 years ago. A long time communicant of Our Lady of Pompeii she also sang in their choir. She was a 72 years member of the Hamden and North Haven Grange. She enjoyed crocheting and making pieces for all of her family. Beside her husband, she is survived by her loving children, MaryLouise (Armand) Polverari of Wallingford, Ann (Dennis) Krajewski and Barbara (Jeff) Barker, both of Branford and Edward (Joyce) Borrelli Jr., of Northford, a sister Ruth Coleman of Cheshire, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grand children and 1 great great granddaughter. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Beverly Faiella, brothers, Ernest and David Birks and a great grandson, Roger Polverari. Funeral Tuesday at 9:15 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10 o'clock. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Conn Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, Ct. The family would like to thank the staff at Arden House and Conn Hospice for their loving and devoted care.
