Obituary

Dolores F. Raccio, 88, a lifelong resident of Hamden, passed away peacefully at home on May 25th. She was born on July 27, 1937, to Mary and Albert Baldino. Following her marriage to John A. Raccio, Jr. in 1958, Dolores settled in Hamden, where they built a beautiful life together and raised their family on Colony Street. Dolores was a cherished family matriarch, a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and a wonderful friend. Her boys remember her as an all-star, full-time mother who supported their every endeavor. Affectionately known as "Aunt Sis” or “Aunt Dolor” to her many nieces and nephews, she possessed a warm hospitality that naturally made her home the go-to gathering place for the neighborhood and family holidays. Professionally, Dolores was a 1967 graduate from the Paier School of Art and then earned her Associate’s Degree in Business Accounting in 1989 from Greater New Haven State Technical College where she graduated with high honors. Dolores built a successful career as an assistant and bookkeeper for several local businesses, including the family business, Connecticut Diaper Service. A woman of remarkable work ethic, she often managed multiple jobs at once, but despite her professional commitments, her family always remained her absolute priority. She took immense pride in maintaining a spotless home and ensuring a delicious, home-cooked meal was always on the table. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Jr., and both parents, Mary and Albert. Dolores leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her three children, John III, Mark Sr. (Gina Griffis), and Paul (Victoria Monocchi); her cherished grandson, Mark Jr. and step-granddaughters Isabel and Aubreigh; her brothers, John (Dorothy) and Albert (Beverly), and a large, loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and friends. The family also leaves behind a special thank you to her dedicated caregivers, Bernie, Linda, and Ottar, for their exceptional care and kindness during her final years. Calling hours will be held Friday from 8:30 - 10:30 am in the Peter H. Torello & Son FH, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Interment will follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clelian Center, 261 Benham St. Hamden, CT 06514 ( www.cleliancenter.org/donate )
