Carmelita J. Zullo Massaro, 82, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2016 surrounded by her loving family at CT Hospice. Carmelita was born in New Haven, Aug. 13, 1934, daughter of the late Martin and Rose Bombace Zullo and was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, class of 52. Prior to graduation she met the love of her life, Anthony B. Massaro, whom she was married to for 59 years. She was involved and was a member of the Hamden Women's Club and the St. Michael Society of New Haven, spent many years volunteering at Alzheimer's facilities, was involved in community programs that focused on helping poor and disadvantaged children, was an executive secretary for a brief time and worked in the food industry with her sister for many years. A devout Catholic, she taught religious classes for many years for Blessed Sacrament School.The majority of her life was dedicated to being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. Beside her husband, Anthony B. Massaro, she is survived by sons, Anthony M. Massaro, Dennis Massaro and wife Kathy, David Massaro and wife Kathleen, all of Hamden, five grandchildren, Melissa, Caitlin, Antonio, Gianna and Steven Massaro. She was predeceased by a brother, Marshall Zullo, a sister Arlene(Judy)Zullo Gammons and granddaughter, Amelia Massaro. Carmelita's happiest times were spent being a homemaker, spending time with her family, and exploring New England and the shoreline on weekend drives with her husband. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd. Suite 4B, Southington, Ct. 06489. Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church Friday at 11 A.M. and may call at the Peter H. Torello & Son F.H., 1022 Dixwell Ave., Friday morning from 9:15 to 10:15. Interment in All Saints Cemetery is private.
