Obituary

Bessie Deglinnocenti Barbarito, 101, of Cheshire, formerly of Hamden, died suddenly at Mid-State Hospital, Meriden, June 26th. She was the wife of the late A. Mark Barbarito. Bessie was born in New Haven, May 9, 1913 the daughter of the late Peter and Giustina Bendinelli Deglinnocenti and for most of her life resided in New Haven and Hamden spending the last 19 years in Cheshire. She was past president of the Mother's Club of Notre Dame High School. She taught sewing classes in the evening in the Adult Education Program for the New Haven Board of Education. At the age of 90, she volunteered at the Cheshire YMCA nursery school. She was a parishoner at Sacred Heart in New Haven, Church of the Ascension in Hamden, and St. Thomas Becket in Cheshire. She was an avid reader, Scrabble player, and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Frank) Richo of Madison, Peter (Carole) Barbarito of Oxford, Mary (Philip) Golino of Sterling, VA, Joan (Stephen) Carroll of Cheshire, a sister Mary Piccirillo of Northford, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by an infant son, Vincent James Barbarito, sisters Anita Abate and Leila Vece, and brother Donald Deglinnocenti. Friends are invited to go directly to St. Thomas Beckett Church, Cheshire, Monday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 o'clock, and are invited to interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamden. Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Loyalty Endowment Fund of Notre Dame High School, 24 Ricardo St., West Haven, CT 06516.
