Benjamin M. "Biagio" Mongillo,89, of Hamden, died Oct. 27, 2011 at Mid- State Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria Marchetti Mongillo, of 60 years. Biagio was born in New Haven, Feb. 3, 1922, the son of the late Antonio and Antoinetta Scafata Mongillo and joined the US Navy at age 18, during WWII, serving on the destroyer USS Nelson, receiving 3 bronze stars. He later was employed at Simpkins Ind. for 38 years, retiring 20 years ago and was a former member of the Annex Club. Beside his wife, he is survived by children, Carol Mongillo Negri, of Wallingford and Robert(Amy)Mongillo of Cheshire,and 3 grandchildren, Laura & Daniel Mongillo and R.J. Negri. He was pre-deceased by siblings Mary Cofrancesco, Rae Andreoli, Ann Whittaker, John and Michael Mongillo.Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral, with military honors, Monday, at 10:30 from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, and at Blessed Sacrament Church at 11 o'clock. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call Monday morning from 9 to 10:30 A.M.
