Obituary

Armando "Red" Mirto, 90, formerly of Shelton Ave., Hamden, died at Skyview Conv. Home, Dec. 21st. He was the husband of the late Rose Barbato Mirto. Red was born in New Haven, Feb. 20, 1923, the son of the late Pasquale & Mary Brilotti Mirto and resided in Hamden most of his life. He was a butcher, owning the Universal Food Store in New Haven. He then worked for Sanzone Market in Hamden for 30 years and Montowese Meat Market for 20 years. He was active in St. Ann's Church where he was an usher, an Army veteran of WWII, a member of Highwood Post #150 American Legion and the DAV, was third district councilman, and active in the Hamden Democratic Party. He also enjoyed his trips to the casino. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by a daughter, Rosemarie Rosenfeld of Meriden, sons, Thomas (Kathi) Mirto of Stamford, and Robert (Sharon) Mirto of Newark, Del. a brother, Albert (Marge) Mirto of Branford, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great grand grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son, Patrick Mirto and siblings, Tess Raffone, Gloria Mentone, Mario and Lucille Mirto. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 A.M, in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 6 to 8 P.M.
