Anna Angela Godwin, nee Raccio, passed peacefully on to her eternal reward on Friday July 31, 2015 in Port Orange, Florida. Anna was the ninth child of the late Dominic and Anna Angela (Mommer and Popper) Raccio, of Hamden Connecticut. Anna was born on August 11, 1930 in Hamden Connecticut. She had eleven siblings, and they all worked the sprawling family farm on Evergreen Avenue. The family had to rely on their ingenuity, and hard won work ethic to survive. The family prospered in spite of the great depression as well with the emergence of WWII. All the kids went on to be very successful. Anna got married and traveled the world with her husband Alvie who was a U.S. serviceman. They settled in Tom's River New Jersey. Anna a life long farm girl, a true nature lover, shared her deep knowledge of nurturing plants. She was president of the Tom's River Garden Club. She was the symposium chairperson for the garden club of New Jersey, as well as vice president for several terms. She gave tirelessly of herself as a volunteer at the Cattus Island Nature reserve in Tom's River. She was also Queen for the Red Hats garden club of New Jersey. She won enumerable awards for her creative and innovative flower arrangements. She was also an avid art collector with a very keen eye. Her taste in art was years ahead of her time. Anna lived her life on her own terms. She was never one to shy away. She told it like it was, and she had a big heart. Anna was pre deceased by her husband, Alvie, and by her seven brothers and sisters, Margarete, Dominic (Sonny), Florence, Helen, Albert, George, Ralph. Left to cherish her memory are brothers Arthur, Russell, Howard, Robert, and Charlotte, her beloved Cat. A memorial service will be held FRIDAY, October 30th,in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home 1022 Dixwell ave Hamden at 12 P.M. Friends May call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association.
