Obituary

Aniello "Neil" "Poppy" Longobardi, 82 of Wallingford, lifelong resident of Hamden, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. Neil was born in New Haven on May 23, 1943, to the late Carmine and Mary (Riccardi) Longobardi. Neil is survived by his beloved wife Rosemary of 58 years, and his 3 children Andrea (late Eric) Pascarella, Joseph (Jessica) Longobardi, Carmine (Toniann) Longobardi, and his 6 grandchildren Joey, Haley, Eric, Jianna, Sammie and Maddie, and his sister Marlene Landino and many nieces and nephews. Neil was predeceased by his sister Maryann (Sonny) Ladd, and sister-in-law Annette Lucarelli. Neil was a longtime barber, following in his father’s footsteps at the young age of 18, where he barbered in Westville and West Haven, and owned Sylvio’s Barbershop. Neil was actively involved with the Town of Hamden, where he served as Chairman of the Police Commission, Chairman of Planning and Zoning Committee, campaign manager for two former Mayor’s, and assisted with running Town Elections. Neil continued his career, as he proudly served as a State Marshal in the New Haven County for almost 40 years. Aside from his passion for work, there was nothing Neil loved more than camping with his family and friends at Indianfield Campground, where he enjoyed days on the boat and nights playing the Mexican Train card game. Neil had a passion for cars, belonged to the Corvette Club, and enjoyed attending car shows such as Barret Jackson. He loved vacations in Florida, especially Disney with his family. He also enjoyed bowling (Neil’s Wheel’s) and was a member of the Hamden Fish and Game. Calling hours will be held Sunday January 4th from 2 - 5 pm in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Friends are asked to go directly to Our lady of Mt. Carmel Church on Monday January 5th at 9:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Centerville Cemetery.
