Alfred J. Civitillo, Sr., 84, of 58 Manila Ave., Hamden, died March 1, 2011 at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Violet Caruso Civitillo. Al was born in New Haven, Nov. 10, 1926, the son of the late Angelo and Mary Izzo Civitillo and resided in Hamden the last 70 years. He was a boiler maker, starting at the Bigelow Boiler Works in New Haven. He was a charter member of the Boiler Makers Union, Local 237, since 1957. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII, fighting with the SeaBees in the Pacific Theater. Al enjoyed, cooking, growing his vegtables in his garden and especially family and his many friends and was a life member of the Hamden Fish and Game Club. He is survived by his children, Mrs. William (Carol) Martineau, Mrs. Anthony (Mary) Martino, Alfred (Cynthia) Civitello and Angelo (Gayle) Civitillo, all of Hamden. his sisters, Annette Santore of Hamden and Theresa Pagliuca of East Haven, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Rosemarie Cimino. Chrisitan Services will be held Friday at 10 A.M. in the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, l022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden.
