Albert William Mattei passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in New Haven on March 2, 1950 and was a lifelong resident of Hamden, recently moving to North Haven. He was a graduate of Hill House High School in 1967 and received a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Sacred Heart University in 1971. Al worked in retail for many years, as a dedicated grocery store manager for Stop and Shop and A & P. He was predeceased by his parents, Silvio and Amelia. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 50 years, Anne Marie (Incampo); his daughter, Andrea Mattei-Brown, and son-in-law, Paul Brown; his son, David, and daughter-in-law, Mary (Lupo); and six grandchildren: Rebecca, Joshua, and Charlotte (Mattei-Brown); and Vincent, James, and Joseph. He is also survived by siblings Mary (Ramirez), Carol (Boroski), Anthony, and Susan (Vessicchio). He also leaves behind several brothers- and sisters-in-law as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly. Al, a lifelong baseball fan, loved the New York Yankees and additionally enjoyed listening to his favorite music by Frank Sinatra and all of the 1960s Motown artists. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his friends and family. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 8:30 - 10:00 am in the Peter H.Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entombment will take place in All Saints Mausoleum.
